The J. Frank White Academy (JFWA) of Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) welcomes Alexander Long as a social studies, world history, U.S. history, and literature teacher for grades 7-12. Long, an educator with more than 10 years of experience, brings a strong background in history and literature with a focus on artifact-based learning.
A Virginia native, Long taught in Virginia public schools for a decade. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in mass communication and a Master of Arts in English literature from East Tennessee State University (ETSU), where he also served as an adjunct professor for eight years. He has lectured on 18th-century British history and folklore at Oxford University and the University of Edinburgh.
He was drawn to JFWA for its dedication to preparing students for college and its small class sizes. “The smaller class sizes allow a teacher to truly get that one-to-one basis with the student and keep them engaged,” Long said. “I look forward to getting involved with the school and getting to know my students better.”
Long plans to introduce interactive classroom projects inspired by his work with Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown Settlement, and Virginia Humanities. His approach centers on bringing history to life through curated lessons using artifacts and encouraging students to explore the people and stories behind each item.
“Mr. Long brings unique experience and perspective with a positive attitude that has been a tremendous asset to our faculty,” said Dr. Kristina Hudson, JFWA Upper School Principal. “We are excited to have him join the J. Frank White Academy family.”
